NOTICE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:Participants who will be in need of a J1 visa to attend the Institute must register by April 30, noon (PST) in order to have their visa requests processed. |
The registration pages are now available. Registration forms along with a non-refundable $50 application fee must be received by 9 April 2007. (Registration will continue after this date but the application fee will be $100. The final date to register is June 1, 2007.) A lottery will be held to determine enrollments in any capped courses after this early registration deadline. Please see our lottery page for details on this policy.
For administrative purposes, student participants enrolled in institute courses are classified as 'Enrolled Participants', and all non-student participants are classified as 'Affiliates'. Affiliates supported by companies are Corporate Affiliates; those supported through non-profit higher education institution funds, or private funds, are Individual Affiliates.
All students who wish to attend the institute must complete the participant registration forms. Those who have applied for or have been awarded an LSA fellowship must also complete these forms. To begin, read our page on enrolling.
The Enrolled Participant tuition fee of $1300 covers attendance in 2 or 3 presession courses and up to 8 LSA credits in regular courses; each regular course is offered for 2 credits. Additional credits are $300 per regular course. The fees cover all administrative costs and access to Stanford computing systems. Class materials are not included in the tuition fee. Fees are due by June 6th.
Tuition fellowships are available on a competitive basis to those who have not completed their professional training. To be eligible for fellowship awards, participants must be LSA student members and must register for 8 credits. Applicants who are unable to remit dues because they are in countries experiencing economic hardship should contact the LSA Secretariat. Application forms are available at the LSA website. Completed forms must be received by the LSA Secretariat no later than 12 February 2007, and letters of recommendation must arrive by 26 February 2007.
Tuition scholarships are also being sponsored by the North American chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics. LSA student members committed to taking at least two computationally oriented courses at the institute and NAACL student members are eligible. Please see the NAACL website for instructions. The deadline is 12 February 2007. One may apply for both the LSA fellowship and the NAACL scholarship (please be sure to register for the NAACL competition separately, as instructed), but dual awards will not be given.
Corporate Affiliate status is granted to employees of companies who wish to participate in the institute and whose attendance is being paid for by their company. The Corporate Affiliate rate of $3000 gives access for one company employee to the whole institute, namely, auditing up to 4 regular courses and participating in all non-restricted institute activities and weekend workshops. (Note that a few institute courses have very limited enrollments and are restricted to Enrolled Participants). This fee also covers all administrative costs including I.D. cards, access to libraries, and access to institute-related events.
We also offer a Corporate Daily Rate of $500 for official access to one day's Institute activities. Corporate sponsorship opportunities are also available; some of them include registration of several employees as Corporate Affiliates.
Individual Affiliate status is granted to faculty, researchers, and others who are not sponsored by a company and who wish to participate in the institute but not as a student. Affiliates may audit courses and take part in institute activities. (Note that a few institute courses have very limited enrollments due to their hands-on nature and may be restricted to Enrolled Participants.)
The fees for the 2007 Institute are $1,000 for the 4-week period. A principal source of student fellowship funds, this fee also covers all administrative costs including I.D. cards, access to libraries, and access to institute-related events. Fees are due by June 6th.

All international participants at the institute who will not already be in the U. S. at the time of the institute must obtain a J-1 visa, for which there is a $75 processing fee, plus a fee required by the U.S government's SEVIS system. If you will need a J1 visa, you must register by April 30, noon (PST). International students and post-docs who will be in the U.S. on a visa sponsored by a non-Stanford U.S. institution must check with that institution regarding policies pertaining to study at Stanford in July 2007.
Arrangements for sign language interpreters, sighted readers, or other special services will be made by the Linguistic Institute. Notification of need for these services must be made on the Affiliate or Enrolled Participant registration form, or by contacting the Institute organizers directly, and must be received by 2 April 2007.
